KATHERINE STAPLES CERAMICS
SCULPTURES AND WALL PIECES
TEXTURES
A fabulous volcanic glaze that reacts in the kiln to create textured craters. Always exciting at kiln opening to see what this one has done and how it has reacted
ORGANIC FLOW
Organic shapes with flowing edges that offer a fragility despite the strength of the fired clay. Wall pieces and sculptures both have a feeling of movement in their organic flow.
SCULPTURES
Beach combing and beach flotsam washed up by the sea are the inspiration for original work. Drawings, sketches and small clay maquettes develop ideas further before making into larger sculptures. All this knowledge and groundwork gained over the years is now used to make my sculptures, ideas backing up with not enough hours in the day to realise all the wonderful creations going on in the thought process! Sculptures encapsulate the movement of the sea in a solid form to be enjoyed forever.
NEW DESIGNS AND GLAZES
I am currently working on a body of work using different clays, a heavily grogged clay that gives texture and strength together with a smooth clay that allows my organic fine edges to swirl and move within each sculpture. Lots of glazing research over the years will come together to form unique, bespoke pieces.
